“I Hate My Job”

You can’t risk losing your job…

but how much longer you can you stomach…

the stress, stupidity, and sociopathic behavior everyday?

How do you find your way to some sanity?

Because let’s face it, at least the job allows you to pay the cable bill.  And cable helps you cope because it’s cathartic to see others having to suffer a little more than you….even if it is scripted, make-believe, and entirely producer controlled “reality television.”

Coping’s starting to get old, though, right?

But, if you’re interested in going beyond coping, you’re probably not looking to saddle yourself with more junk.

You don’t need more rules and regulations in your life. You probably have a boss or company policies giving you enough of that.

You don’t need a yet another “how to.” How many of those books are cluttering your shelves?

You don’t need more pressure. You don’t another method to beat yourself up about not completing. It’s suffocating, isn’t it? You just need some breathing space, a little wiggle room.

What is wiggle room?

It is the ability to mentally and emotionally maneuver. If every time the boss feels insecure you take the hit…that’s not being mobile.

It is the ability to make real choices. Having to choose between emotionally stuffing it or kneeing an annoying coworker in gut…those aren’t real choices.

Wiggle room is the opposite of being a robot, being a slave, and/or being a prisoner to the mental and emotional turmoil you daily find yourself swimming in.

Here’s where I say reading this book, Room 2 Maneuver, can give you that wiggle room. I’d really like to say it will, but books can’t do that. So what I mean is reading this book can give you new options, new perspectives, new angles and new choices. You’re an adult. Given the tools, you can find wiggle room enough for yourself.

But what does wiggle room look like?

  • If you’re in a situation that normally locks you up in fright, but now you find yourself chuckling in the midst of it. That’s wiggle room.
  • If you find yourself in at work under circumstances where normally you explode in rage, but now decide to walk away and focus your amped up energy on project you want to get done…that’s wiggle room.
  • If a boss routinely intimidates you into doing servile tasks, but now you say “No,” without a hint of tension or insecurity in your voice…that’s wiggle room.

Down to Earth, No Puffery

So yes, this book deals with feelings and emotion. Most books get really namby pamby touchy feely what-the-heck-does-that-even-MEAN when it deals with this stuff. This one doesn’t. It doesn’t go overboard with the scientific, but it doesn’t abstract concepts to the point where words have no meaning either.

Room 2 Maneuver addresses a major problem with books of this type. The author doesn’t know you.

I don’t inhabit your head. I don’t know if you experience things the same way I do. So I’ve used a lot of metaphors, analogies, and even a few simple simple equations (relax, it’s like four or five things multiplied together, not a big deal, just an illustration) to explain things as best I can. There’s a good chance one or two will flip a switch and give you an “aha!” moment.

With other books you have to “get it” and get it perfectly for the “system” to work. This book assumes you’re an adult and all you need is a little extra space to free yourself from being completely trapped.

I believe once you have a little freedom you can do the rest. You can use your experience, your skills, your understanding, and your imagination to continue to move forward.

Also, you don’t have to 100% understand each part. You can pick and choose what works.

You’re going to get an interesting take on some things…

  • Why controlling your emotions is a myth and how believing the myth can wreak havoc.
  • Where “thinking more” or “thinking harder” at work gets in the way and where most people cannot help but do it at the wrong times.
  • Want to perform better at work? Do the opposite of what almost everyone says.
  • Where your judgment can be an obstacle — no one will ever tell you this, and no one tells you why.
  • A process most people reverse and why their effectiveness at work tails off too easily.
  • Know the difference between feelings and emotions and why clearing this up can help you get a grip fast.

You’re going to be able to see maddening job situations through new eyes…

  • Want to relax twice as much as your coworkers and boss? Know where control is and where it’s not.
  • How having two views of “reality” in your workplace gives you twice the emotional freedom.
  • Two big breakdowns guaranteed to mess up your game no matter what level you are in your profession.
  • Emotions and responsibility – gain a viewpoint on the matter that makes sense and takes the large load off your shoulders.
  • How to laugh off limiting beliefs left by teachers, parents, bosses, and friends from years ago.
  • The three things you need to be emotionally on target during the day.
  • How a work mindset creates a grease slide into the flow state — where work is both challenging and fun.
  • Where to place your focus as you work — and why it’s the only place that makes any sense.
  • Paying attention to emotions and feelings. The what, the when and the how.
  • An easy attitude to have for top performance, no matter what personality type you have.
  • Difference between unhindered performance and maximum performance…why one leads to freedom and the other to rampant distress.

Where Did This Book Come From?

Initially…this book was about how to keep your head on the soccer field. No, seriously. Playing soccer is a personal passion. I had speed, ball control, blah blah, but what set me apart was a very cool head when fouled by the other team, when the referee made a boneheaded call, or when teammates made tournament losing mistakes.

So, I had a good friend read an early draft. He appreciated the different perspectives and approaches I took…then said something that had never occurred to me…

“Hey, this is also helpful for me at work.”

It dawned on me… I approached my work with similar mindsets as I did soccer. Thus began a major rewrite. And it took longer than it took me to write initial book.

It took me on a journey to help identify how I handled things. I ended up spending a lot of time thinking about, experiencing, and observing two key emotions: fear and anger.

A Look at Fear and Anxiety

No one wants to admit they’re scared, but if you sit down for a second and think about what you do and don’t do during the day, you have to admit some version of fear is major factor. Having a useful perspective on fear and anxiety would be helpful…

  • How some of your work anxiety may not be anxiety at all.
  • How a textbook image from grade school can give you insight into your fears.
  • Detailed descriptions of emotions and feelings that point you toward knowing your emotional states better.
  • A model of fear that helps you to cut its intensity in seconds.
  • Handle your anxiety with a helpful equation.
  • Three components of fear and how they work together to ruin your day.
  • Learn two opposites of fear at work, one of them will surprise you.

A Look at Anger

I wouldn’t bat an eye if a medical journal came out with a study that said office induced anger was the leading cause of ulcers, heart attacks, and tension headaches. We’ll look into anger a bit…

  • Three forms of anger and how knowing them makes a difference with tough work situations.
  • How you tell EARLY the different forms of anger coming up, before they trip you up.
  • How to use anger as a tool you pick up and then put down when you’re done with it.
  • Balancing anger with its three opposites.

It Only Costs $2.99

I’ve condensed it to less than 120 pages. You can download it right away. I’m looking to sell it for over $30, eventually, but since I’m still testing everything it’s reduced the price to $2.99 while I continue to improve it.

That’s about a 2 and a half cents a page.

This is just a side project at the moment. So, it’s a $2.99 risk. But if even one thing from the book allow you to survive another day in a high stress office or a workplace overflowing with incompetent prats…well, it’s a worthwhile investment.

Grab a copy of the e-book, called Room 2 Maneuver. It’s just $2.99 coming out of your debit card or credit card account…less than your Monday morning coffee.
